Largest Event Ever Comes to Phoenix This Week
PHOENIX — August 6, 2019 — The largest event ever to be held in downtown Phoenix is happening this weekend. The three-day convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses will be held at Chase Field beginning Friday, August 9. The program will draw nearly 40,000 in attendance, including 5,000 international delegates from 41 countries.
“This is the largest event that we’ve had in our downtown. . .regardless of the time of year,” said Steve Moore, President and CEO of Visit Phoenix. “I’d give it what we call ‘Mega Event’ status, absolutely.”
Delegates are using 77 hotels in the greater Phoenix area. “We have delegates in hotels all over the region from Scottsdale to Chandler and all the way to Surprise,” says national spokesman Robert Hendriks. “That equates to more than 37,000 room nights.”
The cumulative economic impact of the convention on Phoenix is upwards of $60 million. “It certainly has the largest footprint of anything of any size that you could bring to any community in this country,” concludes Mr. Moore.
To learn more about the economic impact of this event and the incredible volunteer effort to host delegates, you are invited to a Media Open House at Chase Field on Thursday, August 8, at noon. Guided tours for the media will be provided following the event with photo and video content available.
